Drama 165

On the occasion of World Theatre Day, on Friday, 27 March 2026 at 11 a.m., an exhibition marking the 165th anniversary of the Drama of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb will be ceremonially opened in the atrium of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.

The exhibition Drama 165 has been realised as part of the third Theatre Pop-up Museum. It offers a multi-layered view of the history of one of the key institutions of Croatian culture. Featuring a rich photographic archive and a carefully conceived concept, the exhibition centres on the idea of drama as a living, ever-changing organism that endures precisely through its transience. Generations of artists—from actors and directors to dramaturges and intendants—have shaped the identity of the Drama of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, while audiences have for decades been its active participants. This dynamic relationship between continuity and disappearance, built over 165 years, can be explored in greater depth through the exhibition.

The audience will be addressed by the General Manager and Artistic Director of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, Iva Hraste Sočo, PhD; the author of the exhibition concept, Snježana Banović, PhD; senior curator at the Zagreb City Museum, Marina Perica Krapljanov; and actress, theatre director and pedagogue Neva Rošić.

Following the official programme, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the exhibition within the theatre premises and then take part in an organised walk to the Zagreb City Museum, where the collaboration between theatre and museum professionals continues through a multimedia display dedicated to the city’s theatrical heritage.

The exhibition partners are the Zagreb City Museum and the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography.

The exhibition will remain open until the end of the 2025/2026 theatre season. It can be visited half an hour before performances and events, as well as during intervals.

Admission is free.
