Excerpts from the book read by
Fabijan Komljenović, member of the Drama ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb
The publication comprises eight studies, each dedicated to a contemporary Croatian theatre artist distinguished by a unique poetics and artistic signature, i.e., playwrights Slobodan Šnajder, Ivana Sajko, Tena Štivičić, Dino Pešut, Espi Tomičić and Dorotea Šušak, as well as directors Oliver Frljić and Bobo Jelčić. In their work, these playwrights and directors engage with sensitive issues of Croatia’s past and present, give visibility to groups and individuals stigmatized on the basis of their class, gender and national identity, while opening space for silenced and denied voices that are otherwise pushed to the margins. The author’s theoretical originality is matched by a methodological step forward in the form of strongly interdisciplinary approach that brings together theatre and performance studies, gender and queer studies, memory studies, and trauma studies, as well as an interest in theatre ecology. The book was edited by Željka Turčinović and reviewed by Snježana Banović, PhD, and Martina Petranović, PhD.
The lecture will be held in Croatian language.
