Zagreb Opera Festival
CNT in Zagreb and Mala Scena Theatre
For many seasons with its performances for children Hillary the Witch goes to the Opera and Hillary the Witch and the Offended Double Bass, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb has been introducing children to the lovely world of opera. Gita and the Hidden World is a new title intended for babies aged 18 months, but also those slightly older until the age of five. This is a story about a small girl called Gita who lives on a special island. She plays, laughs, is merry and enjoys herself, but sometimes she feels things she cannot precisely explain and cannot name them or why they appear. She never left her home, and her island is large. Prompted by curiosity and determined in her intention to discover something more about the world around her and the unknown feelings she experiences, Gita sets off on a journey. On her journey she will meet interesting creatures, get to know the miracles of her island and what is most important − discover and recognise the emotions she seeks.
Children during the performance Gita and the Hidden Word together get to know and name emotions, learn how to accept them, recognise their purpose and how to handle them. This journey is accompanied by the music of Borna Erceg, a talented young pianist and composer. The 28-year old composer already composed one opera Turia and Plamenko that was named children’s opera for adults because it thrilled the spectators of all ages. Performed by a small orchestra, piano and two soloists of the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb the children will be introduced to the world of music in the loveliest possible manner. Gita and the Hidden World is made up of four different stories that can be watched separately or as a whole. The performance is the result of cooperation
with the Mala scena Theatre from Zagreb.
