For many seasons now, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb has been introducing young audiences to the enchanting world of opera through its productions for children. This season, our repertoire will continue the acclaimed production Gita and the Hidden World: A Tale of Sorrow and Love. In the first part of this opera, crafted for children aged eighteen months to five years, young Gita begins exploring her island and encounters the emotions of fear and anger. But her journey of discovery, both of the world and of herself, is far from over! Gita’s adventure continues as she meets Sorrow, who carries many burdens, like a swollen river, and then learns an important lesson about Love with the help of her new friend, Bumblebee! Throughout the performance, children are invited to discover and name emotions, learn to accept them, recognise their purpose, and cope with them. The journey is led by actress Luca Anić and accompanied by the beautiful music by Borna Erceg, a gifted young pianist and composer whose opera Turia i Plamenko was acclaimed as “a children’s opera for adults” due to its great reception among audiences of all generations. Thanks to the performances by a small orchestra, piano, and soloists from the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, children are immersed in the world of music in the most beautiful way possible.

This co-production with Mala scena Theatre is directed by Buga Marija Šimić Milošev.
