ZAGRLJAJI/ EMBRACES
An exceptionally topical author project of Ksenija Zec Embraces was created by the CNT in Zagreb and the Artistic organisation 21:21. This choreographic research was focused on one of the fundamental human needs, the one for communication, empathy and kindness that is expressed by the physical act of embracing that was absent due to the pandemic and the necessary social distance, and the impossibility of body communication. If we define the embrace as a form of expressing carnal intimacy, closeness, affection or love between two or more individuals, a question can be raised how does prohibition of touch and hugging influence changes in everyday behaviour? Or: does the ban of carnal closeness influence changes in collective feast and/or mourning rituals.
