Gustave Flaubert – Valentina Turcu
MADAME BOVARY
Although today Flaubert's novel Madame Bovary is considered a literary masterpiece, at the time of its creation it was regarded immoral, and its author was even on trial for lack of morality. Yet, despite the scandal due to the authenticity of Flaubert's characters, especially Emma Bovary, the novel became a bestseller. Bovarism revealed fake ideals of the romantic view of the world and Emma's character introduced a new perception of female personality and her impulse for self-destruction, inaugurating her, slightly paradoxically as a new type of heroine. The new production of Flaubert's masterpiece of the multiply awarded choreographer and director Valentina Turcu presents a work that surpasses time and reflects our contemporaneity. Along the incredibly coherent music of Frédéric Chopin, the work is full of exceptional ballet interpretations that were granted professional awards.
