Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
SWAN LAKE
Fantastic ballet in four acts
Choreographed and directed by Vladimir Malakhov
Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, certainly today's most popular ballet blanc, the piece that has become synonymous with the art of classical ballet, had become forgotten after an unsuccessful first premiere in 1877 in Saint Petersburg, and was one of the biggest disappointments of the genius composer's life. The first complete, and spectacular production of the ballet was in 1895, in Saint Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre. It was famously choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Ever since, it has been impossible to imagine any ballet house in the world which does not include this beloved and relatable story in its repertoire, this tale about the prince who falls in love with a princess transformed into a swan and dies saving her. It is believed that the need for Swan Lake has become a wondrous syndrome, a piece which the true admirers of ballet can never get enough of. For over a hundred and forty years, this ballet has been one of the greatest challenges to every ballet ensemble and their soloists. Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky is staged in Zagreb by world-renowned dancer and choreographer Vladimir Malakhov.
Long applause and ovations from the packed auditorium. - Jutarnji list
Nothing is exaggerated, everything is harmonious and sophisticated, and the dancers are the embodiment of restrained and delicate strength. - Večernji list
We feel the Russian spirit but without an eruption of folk temperament (and exaggerated sentimentalism) or a digression into virtuoso spectacle. Everything is suppressed under a tight surface; the tension shines through and rises from precise and noble servitude to the ideal of beauty, which surpasses the possibilities of physical transformation. - Plesnascena.hr
Dugotrajan pljesak i ovacije prepuna gledališta.— Jutarnji list
