The Snow Queen

The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb announces guest performances of the ballet The Snow Queen, composed by Davor Bobić and choreographed by Svebor Sečak, to be held on 14 and 15 February 2026 at HNK2.

The ballet was created as a project of the HNK Consortium and as a co-production of the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek and the Croatian National Theatre Split, where it has already won over both audiences and critics.

Based on the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, The Snow Queen presents an artistically compelling story of friendship, courage and love. The narrative follows the determined Gerda on her quest to find her friend Kay, who has been taken to an icy kingdom by the mysterious Snow Queen.

The result is a visually and musically striking performance for all generations, bringing together neoclassical ballet choreography, elements of ethnic expression, contemporary stage design and digital animations that transform the stage into a world of imagination.

Distinguished by its high production values and strong performances, The Snow Queen was named one of the most important cultural events of 2024 by Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT). The production was also nominated for the Croatian Theatre Awards for Best Overall Performance over the past two years. The award for Best Female Role in Ballet was presented to Iryna Chaban Bilandžić for the title role, while Zdenko Bašić and Neven Mihić received the award for Best Set Design in Drama, Opera and Ballet.
