Opera rosa brought the world of opera closer to the youngest spectators

Opera rosa brought the world of opera closer to the youngest spectatorsOpera — 23. April 2023.

In a pleasant and especially created ambience, with dimmed lighting and quiet sounds and voices, the first opera for babies Opera rosa intended for children between the age of 1 and 3 was held as a coproduction of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the Music Biennale Zagreb.

The authors of the concept which through movement, voice, sound of instruments, colour, lighting and content brings closer the world of art to the youngest of children were Ivana Đula, Selena Gazda, Tena Novak Vincek, Lucija Stanojević and Irma Unušić along sopranos Ivana Lazar and Mima Karaula.

Using the three-part classical structure, Opera rosa begins with the night, musically and contextually calm, gentle and warm, continues with the morning, the awakening and emergence of light and ends with the day, in rejoicing and playing. The well-known routine of babies is implemented in order to introduce them to an entirely new world. Four performers, every in her medium (voice, movement, instrument) lead the children on  a journey from sleeping to playing, from the dark to the light, from the abstract to specific and from voice to the spoken word.

In such an approach the children get acquainted with a new world of art that is close to them, simultaneously opening this world as a space for games and interaction, as a space of freedom and investigation, based on all their senses.
