The new version of 'The Sleeping Beauty': Everlasting Story of Intimate and Collective Dream

The new edition of Breakfast at the Theatre, to be held on 2 April 2026 at 11:00 a.m., is dedicated to the magnificent new production of the beloved ballet The Sleeping Beauty, set to enchanting Tchaikovsky’s music. A story that Croatian audiences have enjoyed over the years in various choreographical adaptations is now reimagined by renowned choreographer Paul Chalmer. Inspired by the great Marius Petipa, Paul Chalmer brings the classical ballet fairy tale vividly to life.

The Breakfast panel will explore many themes of The Sleeping Beauty: good and evil, youth, love, and longing, all within the ballet's dreamlike atmosphere. While embracing tradition, this new production highlights the universal elements that make this ballet and its story both timeless and strikingly contemporary.

Insight into the new production will be provided by Paul Chalmer, choreographer; Anna Kontek, set and costume designer; Mikhail Agrest, conductor; ballet soloists Natalia Kosovac, Miruna Miciu, and Lucija Radić Pálinkó; and Massimiliano Volpini, Artistic Director of Ballet. The moderator is Marta Brkljačić.
