Francesco Nappa – Massimiliano Volpini – Philippe Kratz
CROSSING THE LINES: AN EVENING OF THREE BALLETS
The Zagreb Ballet shows a triple bill, three shorter contemporary ballet works of prominent European choreographers of the younger generation: Francesco Nappa, Massimiliano Volpini and Philippe Kratz. Three choreographers of different dance poetics in their ballet works show distinguished paths of dance research, finding connections and touchpoints between the classical and contemporary dance expression, connecting various styles and techniques, clashing them with each other or intersecting them, creating visions without limits or definitions. The dancers of the Zagreb Ballet, although classically trained, have shown many times in the past that they are masterful in contemporary movement, and these deconstructed dance steps accompanied by acoustic instruments and digital sound are a different challenge for them. All the three choreographers, who have presented themselves for the first time to the Zagreb audience with this premiere, are recipients of many significant professional international awards and acknowledgements. Francesco Nappa is an internationally acclaimed Italian dancer, choreographer and polyvalent artist who in his works connects dance, painting and music. Massimiliano Volpini is a known Italian dancer and choreographer who has, since 1995, created around one hundred ballet choreographies and choreographies in operas, dramas and musicals. Philippe Kratz is an awarded German choreographer noted recently for his conceptually structured choreographies which contain thematic improvisations on the creative work process to original music.
