Two productions from the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb have been selected for the programme of the 36th Marulić Days – Festival of Croatian Drama, which will take place from 20 to 30 April at the Croatian National Theatre in Split.

The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb will thus once again be represented at one of the most important theatre festivals dedicated to Croatian dramatic writing and contemporary national production.

As part of this year’s festival programme, audiences will have the opportunity to see Always Be Like a Dragon by Espi Tomičić, directed by Olja Lozica, on 25 April.

The following day, 26 April, Wooden Birds written by Lidija Deduš and directed by Ivan Plazibat, will be performed. Wooden Birds is a co-production of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin.

The production Wooden Birds achieved notable success in 2025 and received multiple awards. Among others, it won the Croatian Theatre Award for Best Drama Production, as well as awards for direction and stage speech.

Marulić Days traditionally brings together the most significant productions based on texts by Croatian authors, offering an overview of the most relevant achievements in national drama production over the past season.

The inclusion of two productions from the CNT Drama repertoire in the official festival programme represents another significant recognition for the artists and collaborators who contributed to their creation.
