A rich programme for World Theatre DayFrom the theatre — 23. March 2026.
Theatre companies around the world mark World Theatre Day on 27 March, and on this occasion the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb has prepared a rich and diverse programme for its audience.
On Friday, 27 March 2026 at 11 a.m., an exhibition marking a major anniversary – 165 years of the Drama of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb – will be ceremonially opened in the theatre atrium. The exhibition Drama 165 has been realised as part of the third Theatre Pop-up Museum and offers a multi-layered insight into the history of one of the key institutions of Croatian culture.
Two hit productions will be performed on both stages of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. In the evening programme, at 7.30 p.m. on the main stage, the performance of Flags, based on the novel by Miroslav Krleža and directed by Ivan Planinić, will be presented. On the same day, at 7.30 p.m. on the HNK2 stage, the musical Cabaret, directed and choreographed by Leo Mujić and conducted by maestro Ivan Josip Skender, will also be performed. This project brings together the Drama, Opera and Ballet ensembles in a dynamic and visually striking production exploring themes of art, freedom and social change. In 2026, Cabaret received the Zlatni Studio Award for Best Theatre Production of the Year, and audience interest has been exceptional, with tickets sold out well in advance.
The international message will be read before the performance of Zastave by Goran Grgić, and before Cabaret by Barbara Vicković.
