Premiere of ‘Mary Stuart’ Opens a New Chapter in the Dramatic Repertoire of HNK2From the theatre — 09. May 2026.

Last night, the premiere performance of Schiller’s Mary Stuart, directed by Matija Ferlin, opened a new chapter in the drama programme at HNK2. Following the performance, the production was met with prolonged applause from the audience, while the first drama premiere on the new stage of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb confirmed HNK2 as a space for contemporary theatrical interpretations.

Drawing on Schiller’s classic, Matija Ferlin has created a stage language that places emphasis on the rhythm of relationships, precision of performance and the intensity of the acting. The production unfolds through clearly shaped conflicts between the personal and the political, the intimate and the public, opening up space for a new reading of Schiller’s dramatic text.

The title roles are performed by Jadranka Đokić as Mary Stuart and Nina Violić as Elizabeth. Their interpretations form the powerful backbone of the production, building a relationship charged with tension, opposing views on power and a sense of the inevitability of the outcome.

The cast also features Luka Dragić, Dušan Gojić, Silvio Vovk, Livio Badurina, Marin Stević, Ivan Jončić, Alen Šalinović, Iva Mihalić, Tesa Litvan, Fabijan Komljenović and Domagoj Ikić.
