In June 2025, the drama ensemble of the CNT in Zagreb Drama is preparing several significant appearances at prominent festivals and stages in Croatia and in the region, confirming its artistic excellence, but also the importance of touring of the national theatre.
Along the premiere of “The Years” written by the Nobel prize-winner Annie Ernaux, in June, Drama of the CNT in Zagreb is participating at prominent festivals and regional stages where there is great interest for our work. We believe it is very important to present our performances to diverse audiences and in different cultural contexts, because the exchange of experiences enriches and strengthens mutual collaboration, said the director of the Drama of the CNT in Zagreb, Tena Štivičić.
The first guest appearance was on May 31, 2025, at the prestigious 70th Sterijino pozorje Festival in Novi Sad with The Wooden Birds, the first work of Lidija Deduš that was a coproduction of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin. The same performance then appeared at the 27th Theatre fest Petar Kočić in Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 4, 2025, and the Zagreb premiere of the production directed by Ivan Plazibat is scheduled for June 29, 2025. Lidija Deduš was granted the Croatian Theatre Arts' Award for The Wooden Birds in 2022.
As part of the accompanying program of the 60th Maribor Theatre Festival (Borštnikovo srečanje) performance Sorry, the author project of Bobo Jelčić was performed on June 5, 2025, which received great praise of the audience since its opening night in 2022 at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. In this theatrical research, actors of the drama of the CNT in Zagreb and young actors jointly deconstruct archetypal stories about seemingly simple relations, such as the mother-daughter and father-son relationships, friends, first love, etc.
As part of the K-HNK cooperation, on June 12, 2025, at the CNT in Osijek drama of the CNT In Zagreb will give its awarded performance The Gypsy, but the Most Beautiful directed by Ivica Buljan after the novel of Kristian Novak.
These guest appearances of the Drama of the CNT in Zagreb are crucial for presenting our theatre to a wider audience and for strengthening regional cultural cooperation as well as the visibility of the Croatian drama production on the international theatre stage.
