A dance story about Tchaikovsky that illuminates the long-time concealed moments of his life

A dance story about Tchaikovsky that illuminates the long-time concealed moments of his lifeBallet — 28. February 2023.

Ballet Tchaikovsky choreographed by the renowned and awarded Cayetano Soto is scheduled
for Monday February 27, 2023, at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb as part of the
project K-HNK: Consortium of Croatian National Theatres.

After ballet Spartacus in Zagreb, the second performance, of this double ballet coproduction
of Croatian National Theatres in Rijeka and Zagreb, for the first time brings the Spanish
choreographer Soto to Croatia who claims that the performance created to the selected music
of the great P. I. Tchaikovsky depicts a journey guided by the facts and mysteries that shaped
the composer's unique artistic soul and mind.

Cayetano Soto reveals and paints with dance movements one of the best composers of the
romantic era and with his distinctive dance vocabulary, consisting of nuanced details and
grotesque adaptations of traditional movements, he creates a ballet primarily inspired by
the unpublished letters and other archive documents of the State House-Museum Tchaikovsky
in Moscow.

The pressure of the society dominated Tchaikovsky's entire life all until his death and his
private life was a taboo topic in his homeland, for almost one hundred years. The intimate life
of Tchaikovsky was devoutly concealed by members of his family, musicologists and
dignitaries of the imperial dynasty Romanov and Stalin's Soviet Union. From the
government's standpoint it was inconceivable to accept the idea that Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky,
the Russian national treasure, was gay, says the dramaturge of the performance and co-author
of the concept Dario Suša. Cayetano Soto and Dario Suša are co-authors of the concept,
costumes, sets and lights design.

The cast is: Michele Pastorini, Maria Matarranz de las Heras, Ali Tabouch, Ksenija Krutova,
