Discover Life Behind the Scenes!
This guided tour programme has been designed to introduce visitors to the rich history and diverse artistic activities of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb while offering a rare glimpse behind the scenes into areas that are usually inaccessible to the public. Our aim is to open the doors to the world where productions come to life every day and where Drama, Opera and Ballet work together in harmony.
Alongside the 166 Seasons Behind the Scenes tour, we are also introducing a new addition to the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb’s programme: a guided tour of the HNK2 complex, home to our set design workshops and new stage.
During the tour, visitors have the opportunity to explore first-hand the workshops where productions are created, from the initial idea to the final stage realisation, as well as the stage itself, one of the most technologically advanced performance spaces in this part of Europe.
HNK2 is a place where craftsmanship, art and innovation come together, revealing to visitors what usually remains unseen: the creative process, the people and the technology behind the stage magic of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb warmly invites everyone to join us in celebrating our theatre anniversaries and experience everyday theatre life from a unique and rarely seen perspective.
Meeting point for the tour is the theatre atrium.
Duration
The combined tour of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and HNK2 lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The tour of the Croatian National Theatre lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes, followed by a 30-minute break. The HNK2 tour lasts 30 minutes.
The walk to HNK2 takes approximately 20 minutes.
Accessibility
The tour includes access to several floors, mainly via stairs. Unfortunately, it is therefore not suitable for visitors with reduced mobility, wheelchair users or visitors with pushchairs.
The tour is conducted in Croatian unless otherwise stated.
Important information
The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb is a working theatre with daily rehearsals, technical preparations and performances. For this reason, every tour is unique, and the route and programme may vary slightly depending on the activities taking place in the theatre that day.
Photography may be restricted in certain areas depending on the activities in progress.
