Theatre Breakfast – The Years, magnificent biography of our timesFrom the theatre — 28. May 2025.
On the occasion of the opening night of The Years directed by Jovana Tomić, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb organised the Theatre Breakfast – a special event dedicated to encounters with artists and deliberations on current theatre topics.
This interactive program was held in the unique garden ambient of the house of Mila Dimitrijević on Monday, June 2, 2025, and the goal was to draw nearer repertoire titles from several perspectives and incite a dialogue between the spectators, authors and experts in the field of performative arts. The novel The Years written by the French novelist and Nobel prize-winner for literature Annie Ernaux is an exceptional work of contemporary autobiographic prose. Through a prism of personal experience, the author displays 60 years of European cultural, political and social history with a special emphasis on identity alterations, family dynamics, the role of women and collective recollection. It is this layeredness of the text that was a stimuli for its stage interpretation and adaptation. Speakers who talked about the phenomenon of this novel at this Theatre Breakfast were: — Gordana Farkaš Sfeci, chief editor of the OceanMore publishing house — Mirjana Rakić, doyen of Croatian journalism — Tena Štivičić, writer and director of the Drama of the CNT in Zagreb The moderator was novelist Ivana Bodrožić. On this occasion the Theatre Breakfast had an additional dimension – a gastronomic experience in cooperation with the renowned chef Melkior Bašić and his Chef’s Catering, famous for an innovative approach and high-quality. Visitors enjoyed a specially tailored gourmet menu, adapted to the atmosphere of the program.
