Theatre breakfast – Dancing Stravinsky

Theatre breakfast – Dancing StravinskyFrom the theatre — 30. October 2024.

On the occasion of the first ballet premiere in season 2024/2025, The Firebird /Petrushka by Igor Stravinsky choreographed by Maša Kolar and Edward Clug, the Croatian National Theatre held the event Theatre Breakfast - Dancing Stravinsky on the Day of Croatian Ballet on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 10.30 a.m. at the CNT Foyer.

The new interactive program initiated this season focuses on informal encounters of our visitors with artists and experts from diverse (artistic) areas. The visitors are invited to mingle and talk with artists and get acquainted with new repertoire titles from several perspectives, including the one behind the stage. Authors, practitioners and theoreticians will aid in this as well as connoisseurs of the topic that is being discussed.  Dancing Stravinsky introduces the work of the revolutionary Russian composer Igor Stravinsky (1882 – 1971) whose opus must also be elaborated in the context of ballet art. Having realised world acclaim and a meteoric rise due to the cooperation with Diaghilevꞌs Ballets Russes, Stravinsky permanently marked the world of music and ballet.

Ballet pedagogue, theoretician and faculty lecturer Andreja Jeličić talked about his sensibility for the stage and a specific composerꞌs vocabulary with an emphasis on The Firebird and Petrushka. While she discussed the historical context of both ballets, maestro Valentin Egel spoke about the influence and meaning of Stravinsky for music and stage art.

Maša Kolar, the choreographer of The Firebird was present and Edward Clug, choreographer of Petrushka joined the event through a video-call. The Director of Ballet Massimiliano Volpini prepared some video clips from rehearsals for this event. The opening night is scheduled for November 15, 2024.

Free admission.
