At the initiative of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, a new and important chapter of collaboration begins between the national theatre and Croatian Railways Passenger Transport. Croatian Railways is launching a major national campaign, Take the Train to the Theatre, aimed at bringing theatre closer to audiences across Croatia and encouraging theatre visits through sustainable and accessible travel.
CR Passenger Transport has recognised the value of this initiative and accepted the invitation of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, further strengthening the long-term partnership between the two national institutions. The Take the Train to the Theatre campaign connects culture and public transport symbolically and practically, opening the doors of the theatre to an even wider audience. As part of the collaboration, visitors to the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb are offered significant discounts on train travel, as well as additional benefits when purchasing theatre tickets, creating a unique culture-and-transport model at the national level.
Discount for Visitors to the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb
Under the partnership between CR Passenger Transport and the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, all passengers attending performances at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb are entitled to purchase return train tickets at a 40% discount off the regular fare. The offer applies to travel from all official points of sale and on all domestic services to Zagreb Main Station and back, for distances exceeding 25 km.
Discounted return tickets are issued at ticket offices or on board the train to passengers who declare that they are travelling to attend a performance at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. The discount is valid until 31 January 2027.
The entitlement to the discount is evidenced by the train ticket, which must be stamped on the reverse by the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Validated tickets will be checked by train staff on the return journey. Passengers without a validated ticket, or those travelling outside the specified period, are required to pay the difference up to the full fare.
At the same time, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb offers a 15% discount on regular ticket prices from the individual price list to all visitors who present a valid HŽ Passenger Transport ticket when purchasing tickets for performances.
Audience Mobility as One of the Key Strategic Objectives of the National Theatre
The collaboration with HŽ Passenger Transport once again confirms the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb as a leader in developing positive practices for audience mobility. The CNT systematically develops models that bring performances closer to audiences beyond conventional geographical and institutional frameworks, both nationally and internationally, from the so-called European Subscription, which for four seasons has enabled audience exchange between Zagreb and Maribor, to the national project K-HNK, initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Media, through which audiences from other national theatres regularly visit Zagreb, while Zagreb audiences organisedly travel to other theatres.
