In memoriam Suzana Bačić

In memoriam Suzana BačićFrom the theatre — 12. September 2023.

Suzana Bačić, a distinguished ballet artist and long-term member of the Ballet of the CNT in Zagreb, died on August 16, 2023.
She was born in 1962 in Zagreb where in 1980 she finished the School for Classical Ballet in Zagreb in the class of Nadežda Herceg. As a talented young ballerina, she perfected her studies at the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg. Upon her return to Zagreb she was immediately engaged in the CNT Ballet ensemble where, already in 1983, she was promoted to a ballet soloist.
Suzana Bačić joined the new young dancing talents that at that time dominated the Zagreb Ballet such as Irena Pasarić, Almira Osmanović, Lydija Mila, Ljiljana Gvozdenović, Spomenka Šparemblek, Sorin David, Ostoja Janjanin, Dubravko Kolšek and Svebor Sečak and together with them created the new core of the national ballet ensemble and its artistic development.

Suzana Bačić danced numerous roles in the classical, contemporary and national ballet repertoire. She will be especially remembered for her interpretation of Klara and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker by P. I. Tchaikovsky, in the choreography of Waclaw Orlikowsky, Blue bird in ballet The Sleeping Beauty of the same choreographer, the Evil Sister in Cinderella choreographed by Ivica Sertić, Clown in Songs of Love and Death by Milko Šparemblek, Pas de trois in Swan Lake choreographed by Oleg Danovsky, Peasant pas de deux in Giselle and for her distinguished role in the iconic performance of that time Ballads brought by the wind.
She was a nominee for the award of the Croatian Theatres' Award and was the recipient of the Ana Roje annual award of the CNT in Zagreb for her entire artistic contribution during her rich career. As a ballet dancer she was noted for her exceptional artistic and technical precision and all of her roles she danced with great dedication giving the audience her entire self. After her long-term dancing career, she became a ballet mistress and she unselfishly passed on her knowledge and love for ballet to the younger generations.
The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the ballet ensemble bid farewell with grief. Thank you for everything our dear Suzana.
