The national principal Ivica Čikeš is a new member of the Opera of the CNT in Zagreb.

Ivica Čikeš had been a long-term member of the Opera of the CNT in Split where he was an imperative interpreter of the most demanding bass roles, especially in the Italian repertoire, but was also a regular guest of the CNT in Zagreb. Throughout the past 20 seasons in Zagreb,
Čikeš created numerous remarkable roles of the Croatian and Italian repertoires. The Zagreb audience will soon be able to watch him in the role of Sarastro in The Magic Flute and in the role of Suleyman in Nikola Šubić Zrinjski.

He was born in Split and commenced his vocal education at the Josip Hatze music school. He studied singing at the Split branch of the Music Academy in Zagreb in the class of professor Cynthia Hansell-Bakić and then went to Rome and Parma to work with Maja Sunara and conductor Wilhelm Wodnansky. He had his debut in Mozart's Requiem at the co-cathedral of St. Peter in Split (1989) and his first opera role was Marquis D'Aubigny in Verdi's opera La Traviata (1992). He is also known as an oratorio singer with a broad range of roles relating to sacral themes of local and international authors.
