The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb on Wednesday February 22, 2023, presented the installation Imagine of the Croatian conceptual artist Vladimir Dodig Trokut, placed in front of the CNT in Zagreb. This impressive and somewhat shocking installation consists of a black cage almost three metres high in which there is a locked, enclosed oversized gun. The title of the installation alludes John Lennon's evergreen that sends a message of peace which was exactly the intention of setting up this installation in the light of global events. For the artist, the gun was undoubtedly a symbol of war, killing and violence, moreover, an execution. Along the artist himself, the gallerist Miloš Glavurtić worked on this installation that he named Freedom to birds, prison for guns for more than five years.
The general manager of the CNT in Zagreb Iva Hraste Sočo at the beginning of the presentation pointed out how stopping any sort of violence today is a necessity and speaking up of the absurdity of wars and conflicts of any kind is our duty and duty of every individual.
Vladimir Dodig Trokut is one of the most significant and complex artistic personalities of the Croatian contemporary art scene. His opus and legacy are yet to be revealed in the upcoming years in their intriguing aura. A monography about his work is also in preparation. His installation Imagine in front of the CNT in Zagreb will remain on display until May 2023.
