'The Gypsy, But the Most Beautiful' with Audio Description and Sign Language Available

'The Gypsy, But the Most Beautiful' with Audio Description and Sign Language AvailableDrama — 26. March 2026.

At the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, a performance of The Gypsy, But the Most Beautiful by Kristian Novak, directed by Ivica Buljan, was presented as part of the inclusive project Watching by Listening, which is the continuation of the Theatre’s efforts to make its programme accessible to audiences with visual impairments.

This is the third production at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb to be performed with audio description, and the first to also be accessible with sign language interpretation.

Actor Fabijan Komljenović was as the audio narrator for the adapted performance.

As part of the Watching by Listening project, selected productions from the repertoire of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb are equipped with audio description, a specially designed narration delivered through headphones during the performance, describing the onstage action. In this way, blind and visually impaired audiences gain insight into expressions, movements and changes in the set, enabling a deeper understanding of the characters and the storyline.

The project highlights the importance of an inclusive approach to the arts and contributes to raising awareness of the needs and rights of persons with disabilities.

The Watching by Listening project is implemented by the UP2DATE Centre in partnership with the associations Zamisli and Kameleon, with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media. The aim of the project is to adapt selected productions in order to make theatre more accessible to all.
