The opening of the first Opera Zagreb Festival organised by the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb wil tkae place on Sunday, June 25, 2023 with opera Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi of the CNT Opera with Pier Giorgio Morandi as conductor and in direction of Giancarlo del Monaco.

The Opera Zagreb Festival that will take place between June 25 and July 5, 2023, will artistically enrich the Opera season of the CNT in Zagreb that will be rounded up by the opening night of opera Stanac by Jakov Gotovac, but also the touristic offer of the City of Zagreb. Opera fans throughout the 11 days of the Festival will be able to see some of the most significant productions of guest opera houses.

The accompanying festival program commences on the day of the performance at 6.45 p.m. with interesting music events in front of the theatre, where the creatives will present the opera that will be performed that night. Mingling with the soloists and creative teams along numerous surprises will be organised all until the beginning of the performance, and the spectators who were unable to acquire a ticket for the Festival or just wish to listen to the opera will be able to enjoy the broadcasting of the show in front of the theatre.

For all those who wish to test their knowledge, an opera quiz will be organised in the theatre Foyer during the intervals between the acts and the winners will receive gifts. After the performance, the audience is invited to continue their mingling in the theatre caffe Kavkaz with personalised opera menus and cocktails specific for every performance.

The Festival will continue on June 29, 2023 when the Croatian National Theatre Split will perform its one-act opera Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. The conductor is Jure Bučević and stage director Jelena Bosančić.
On July 3, 2023, Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades of the CNT Ivan noble Zajc Rijeka is on the repertoire with Valentin Egel as conductor and Christian Romanowsky and Dunja Vejzović as stage directors.
The CNT in Osijek will perform L'elisir d'amore by Donizetti on July 1, 2023, a joyful witty opera full of impressive and memorable arias with maestro Mladen Tutavac as conductor and Ozren Prohić as stage director. International guests, the Slovene National Theatre from Ljubljana will close the first edition of the Opera Zagreb Festival on July 5, 2023, with opera Faust by Charles Gounod with Ayrton Desimpelaer as conductor and Frank Van Laeck as stage director.
