Activities of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb relating to the reconstruction in response to the effects of the earthquakeFrom the theatre — 27. April 2023.
The course of the activities relating to the reconstruction in response to the effects of the earthquake on three locations of the CNT in Zagreb as well as plans of future developmental projects were presented at a meeting between the Minister of culture and media Nina Obuljen Koržinek, PhD and the general manager of the CNT in Zagreb, Iva Hraste Sočo, PhD with associates.
The main building of the CNT in Zagreb is in the process of reconstruction as well as the warehouses and workrooms in Adžijina street 7a and the villa in Mesićeva street 19 in Zagreb. State secretary of the Ministry Krešimir Partl, director of the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Tomislav Petrinec, Director of Directorate for Cultural and Artistic Development Nevena Tudor Perković, secretary general Marica Mikec, Head of sector for Cultural and Artistic Development Irena Kregar Šegota, Business manager Paola Beltrame, Head of Technical department Denis Rubinić and head of the rehabilitation project and reconstruction of buildings damaged in the earthquake Lui Giaschi as representative of the Quadracon company who presented all the reconstruction activities, were present at the meeting along the Minister of culture and the general manager of the CNT in Zagreb.
The first presentation referred to the complete reconstruction and the developmental project in Adžijina street 7a where over an area of 8,868 m2 the CNT in Zagreb has warehouses for sets, costumes and other holdings as well as workrooms for the creation of sets (carpentry, locksmiths, painters, sculptors and upholstery), over a total buildings area of 6,549 m2. Since most of the buildings incurred serious destruction during the earthquake and were assessed as unusable, the first phase of works relating to structural reconstruction and rehabilitation is under way financed entirely by the non-refundable money received from the EU Solidarity Fund. The next phase will involve all final and installation works as well as the final part of the entire reconstruction of the complex of buildings including the warehouses and workrooms covering an area of 5,763 m2.
The second phase involves the construction of the second stage of the CNT in Zagreb whose area with accompanying facilities will cover an area of 1,278 m2 so the whole complex will cover a construction area of 7,041 m2. The second stage will have a capacity of 300 seats with mobile telescopic stands in order to offer venue flexibility that will beside its main function also serve as a venue for rehearsals, but also as a mounting stage for sets that will be built for the main building, which until now was not possible.
The activities in the main theatre building that were covered by the non-refundable means of the EU Solidarity Fund were used for project documentation for the reconstruction and the creation of a Study of spatial possibilities of the future developmental concept that with the inclusion of new statical and dynamic loads of stage technology has a direct influence on the elements of the project of the construction renovation of the building. The villa in Mesićeva street is undergoing structural reconstruction in response to the effects of the earthquake, while in the second phase the villa will undergo a complete renovation.
Minister Obuljen Koržinek expressed her satisfaction with the course of the reconstruction activities, commended the high utilisation rate of EU funding and expressed full support of the Ministry in the further realisation of the second stage of the CNT in Zagreb and in the creation of the future developmental concept of the main building of the CNT in Zagreb and the full reconstruction of the villa in Mesićeva street. The general manager Hraste Sočo concluded that the reconstruction is going as planned and within the set time limits and expressed her satisfaction with the current implementation of work and thanked the Ministry of culture and media for the realisation of this complex and demanding project.
