Theatre Tours

The group tour of the Theatre is designed to give visitors an insight into the history and structure of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.

This unique experience allows all participants to step behind the scenes and discover the secrets of Croatia’s largest theatre building.

The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb was founded in 1860 in a new building on St. Mark’s Square, fulfilling the long-standing aspirations of the Croatian people to have a theatre in their own language. In 1895, the Theatre moved to the grand building on what was then known as the Fairground Square, where it still operates today.

Throughout its history and into the present day, the Croatian National Theatre has remained a central institution of Croatian cultural life, hosting many significant premieres. During a one-hour guided tour, the group will visit the auditorium, take photographs on stage, and pass through an underground tunnel—unknown to most visitors—that connects the Theatre with the nearby Kolo building.

Participants will learn about the architecture of the Croatian National Theatre and gain deeper insight into its history. The tour offers an opportunity to explore Croatian cultural heritage and understand the importance of theatre as part of the country’s artistic and educational life, fostering a broader appreciation of its role in history and society.

Tickets can be purchased at the Theatre’s box office during regular working hours or via the official website.

The ticket price is 12 EUR, while students, pupils, and pensioners can purchase tickets for 7 EUR.

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the tour begins.

The tour starts in the Theatre’s atrium, with entry through the main doors.

Groups are limited to a maximum of 20 participants.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Theatre!
