Discover Life Behind the Scenes!
Our guided tours offer a unique opportunity to explore the rich history and vibrant artistic life of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Visitors are invited to step beyond the stage and into areas of the theatre that are normally inaccessible to the public, gaining an insight into the world where performances come to life and where Drama, Opera and Ballet work together every day.
Join us in celebrating the theatre’s heritage and experience the everyday workings of one of Croatia’s leading cultural institutions from a completely new perspective.
Combined Tour: HNK + HNK2
Alongside our popular 166 Seasons Behind the Scenes tour, we also offer a visit to HNK2, the Croatian National Theatre’s production complex, home to our stage workshops and new performance venue.
During the tour, visitors can explore the workshops where productions are created—from the first sketches and ideas to their final stage realization—as well as the stage itself, one of the most technologically advanced performance spaces in this part of Europe.
HNK2 is where craftsmanship, creativity and innovation meet, revealing the people, processes and technologies behind the stage magic of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
Duration
The meeting point for all tours is the theatre atrium.
The combined HNK + HNK2 tour lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The tour of the main theatre building lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes, followed by a 30-minute break. The HNK2 tour lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Please note that the walk from the theatre building to HNK2 takes approximately 20 minutes.
Tickets and Prices
Tickets can be purchased at the theatre box office during regular opening hours or online via our official website.
The standard ticket price for the theatre tour is €12. Pupils, students and pensioners are eligible for a reduced ticket price of €7. Reduced tickets are available exclusively at the theatre box office. The combined HNK + HNK2 tour costs €20 per person.
Group size is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
Accessibility
The tour includes several flights of stairs and access to multiple levels of the building. Unfortunately, it is therefore not suitable for visitors with reduced mobility, wheelchair users or visitors with prams.
Tours are conducted in Croatian unless otherwise specified (this mainly applies to our Advent tours).
Important Information
The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb is a working theatre, with rehearsals, technical preparations and performances taking place every day. As a result, each tour is unique, and the route and content may vary depending on activities taking place in the building at the time of your visit.
Photography may be restricted in certain areas due to ongoing rehearsals or technical work.
Private Tours
Private tours can be arranged for groups of at least 10 participants at a price of €20 per person. Tours are available in Croatian or English and must be booked in advance by email. Availability depends on the theatre’s schedule and operational requirements.
