Josip Švagelj

Josip Švagelj, a Croatian tenor, has gained recognition for winning the 1st Prize and the Grand Prix at the Stojan Stojanov Ganchev International Vocal Competition, as well as special awards from the Croatian Chamber Orchestra, HDGPP, and Lav Mirski. In the past season, he performed at Tiroler Festspiele Erl as Gastone in La Traviata, Matteo Borsa in Rigoletto, and Ruiz in Il Trovatore. Additionally, he appeared as Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Gastone in La Traviata, Gamekeeper in Rusalka, Schmit in Werther, Normano in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Zagreb National Opera, as well as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore in HNK Split. This season he will perform Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Ismaele and Abdallo Nabucco. Josip made a successful debut at the Zagreb National Opera House in B. Papandopulo's Amfitrion, portraying the character Mercury. He also impressed audiences at the Opera Studio of the Zagreb Music Academy in Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart and Salieri opera, where he portrayed Mozart. Outside of opera roles, Josip regularly performs in concerts and various events across Croatia and Montenegro. His diverse repertoire includes roles such as Rodolfo in La Bohème, Alfredo and Gastone in La Traviata, The Indian Guest in Sadko, Nick in La Fanciulla Del West, Young Gipsy in Aleko, Lensky in Eugene Onegin, Peppe in Pagliacci, and Ferrando in Così fan tutte, among others.
