After its premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Goldoni's Brawling in Chioggia is coming to CNT in Zagreb

After its premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Goldoni's Brawling in Chioggia is coming to the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. The spectators can watch the performance on December 29 and 30, 2025 and feel the Mediterranean spirit and experience the vivid language and the magnificent acting energy of the ensemble. The performance was created as a cooperation agreement between the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Marin Držić Theatre and the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb as part of the K-HNK consortium.

The performance delighted critics and the audience of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival as the first drama premiere of the festival, and the text was translated and adapted into the Dubrovnik dialect by Morana Čala. The stage director is Krešimir Dolenčić.

As one of Goldoni’s most beloved plays, Brawling in Chioggia still resonates today with its immediacy, humour, and vivid characterization of “little people.” Although set in a precise historical and local context, the play emphasizes the social circumstances that shape female identity, as well as the everyday lives of fishing families whose lives are permeated with love, gossip, bickering, and passion. Through rhythmic dialogues and temperamental conflicts, Goldoni masterfully portrays the mentality of the Mediterranean world.

The main roles are played by Joško Ševo, Ksenija Prohaska, Nika Lasić, Bojan Beribaka, Nikola Radoš, Borko Perić, Angela Bulum, Nika Matušić, Nikolina Prkačin, and others.

The performances in Zagreb represent a unique opportunity for the Zagreb audience to see a new staging of one of the key titles of the Mediterranean repertoire, a vivid, energetic, and emotionally rich play.

In a month in which all performances on both stages are already sold out, performances of this production are scheduled for December 29 and 30, 2025.

Tickets are on sale at the box office of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and HERE.
