From early morning the building of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb was surrounded by visitors who wished to book their seats for the upcoming performances of The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky is one of the most performed ballets in the world and for the Zagreb audiences it is a must-see during the Christmas holidays. The Zagreb Ballet throughout its history has produced several excellent versions of The Nutcracker, the last one being in 2011 in the choreography of Derek Deane. Deane created this magic ballet story by taking the spectators into a dream world, much different from the one we know, following the yearnings of Tchaikovsky who wanted to offer the spectators a fantastic, magic, mythical and legendary world.
On the occasion of this unimaginable demand for tickets the general manager of the CNT in Zagreb Dubravka Vrgoč said:
„Today`s demand for The Nutcracker only proves that the theatre in Croatia holds a significant place ad that even in nowadays when some values are marginalised, the theatre succeeds to be in the centre of interest of the citizens of Zagreb.“.
