Concert of Croatian composers

Conductor: Nikša Bareza

June, 2011.

At the end of the anniversary season, Opera ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, conducted by maestro Nikša Bareza, will perform fragments from the most significant works of the rich Croatian opera heritage. The world premiere of Love and Malice by Vatroslav Lisinski in 1846 marked the beginning of the development of Croatian opera which has until today produced a number of successful titles deserving to be kept on the repertoire for decades because of their extreme artistic value. Those are primarily the works of Lisinski, Zajc, Bersa, Gotovac, Hatze and Papandopulo, with a few justly
and unjustly neglected titles. At the same time, this concert will be an opportunity to present the young opera singers who are yet to tread in footsteps of the great Croatian artists such as Josip Kašman, Milka Trnina, Zinka Kunc, Srebrenka Jurinac, Vladimir Ruždjak and many others.

Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb is a member of the European association of opera houses, Opera Europa.
