The masterpiece of the Croatian renaissance literature, Marin Držić’s comedy Uncle Maroje, is one of the gems of the Croatian drama literature and a brilliant work in which the author humorously describes Dubrovnik and its citizens who happened to find themselves in the Italian metropolis Rome.

Uncle Maroje is a fresco of a historical period and a society, a micro-cosmos in which all human virtues and vices interweave. With this show, the Drama of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb worthily presents a great comedy writer and after two full decades offers an opportunity for the new generations in Zagreb and all over Croatia to enjoy the adventures of “our” people in a big, foreign city.
