Premiere: March 4, 2011.
Triple Bill Ballet Evening will present three world-famous short ballet pieces. Concerto barocco on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach is the famed choreography by George Balanchine, which was performed for the first time in 1941, but never staged in Croatia before. The ballet will be passed on by Francia Russell, who did the same with the first Balanchine’s choreographies at Zagreb Ballet in 1977. Five Tangos by Ástor Piazzolla is a popular ballet created by Hans van Manen. Although Manen is considered a classic of the contemporary ballet, none of his works has been performed in Zagreb yet. The
third part of our Triple Bill Ballet Evening will present a part of the classical ballet entitled Paquita, on the music of Ludwig Minkus and in the choreography of Marius Petipa, which had its world premiere in 1881. Although Paquita is rarely performed as a full evening ballet, parts of it have become the standard repertoire of ballets all over the world. Paquita will be choreographed by Derek Deane.
